Rotary Clubs of Awka Urban, Awka Metropolis And Rotaract Club of Orumba Municipal Hold Seminar In Commemoration Of World Polio Day 2025

As part of efforts to keep Polio at zero level, the Rotary Club of Awka Urban, Rotary Club of Awka Metropolis and Rotaract Club of Orumba Municipal, have organized a seminar in Awka, the Anambra State capital, in commemoration of World Polio Day 2025.

Speaking on “Every child deserves to live without Polio”, a Consultant Surgeon with the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Dr. Emmanuel Mba, noted that though Nigeria has been removed from countries with endemic polio, high rate of migration, circulating vaccine-induced polio virus that comes from places where immunization is poor, among others, still make it necessary to sustain the fight against polio.

While noting psychological effects on children, negative effects on job opportunities, as well as emotional problems polio cause relatives, Dr. Mba commended Rotary for providing vaccines in the fight against it, urging sustenance and more collaborations.

Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Mr. Chris Molokwu, who attended the event, said the media will continue to amplify messages designed to win the fight against polio, just as the Assistant Governor, Zone 13, Reverend Sr. Dr. Yves-Mary Obi, said Rotary will remain in the forefront to close the gap in the fight against polio, calling for support of wealthy individuals.
