Enugwu-Agidi Crisis Deepens As Groups Protest in Community

Some members of Enugwu-Agidi community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State have staged a peaceful protest in the area, against the President General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly   Union, Mr  Ebuka Onuorah.

The protesters including Benedict Okoye , Mrs Grace Aghauche, Mr Vin Onyekwelu ,Chief Nathan Okoye, and  Mr John Aguiyi among many others, who carried placards of various inscriptions accused the President General of kidnapping, illegal land sales and disregarding the constitution of the community, even as there was a counter protests by another group demanding the removal of the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Michael Okekeuche .

When contacted, the traditional ruler, Igwe Okekeuche who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Ifeanyi Ndulue,  urged the people to maintain calm and restraint, while seeking  intervention of the government and relevant security agencies to protect  lives and property in the area as well as investigate the root causes of the unrest to restore law ,order and justice, while the President General Mr Onuorah claimed that the protest was staged to disrupt the Enugwu Agidi Central Executive Meeting scheduled for the day  and denied having anything to to do with land issues, pointing out that he was not a member of the Community’s Land Committee. 

Igwe Okekeuche and some members of his cabinet later staged a walkout from the Enugwu Agidi Central Executive Meeting because some key stakeholders were denied entry into the venue while some branch chairmen including, Mr Obinna Amuta and Comrade Emeka Ementa alleged that they were attacked by thugs and chased out of the venue.
