The youths of Isseke community in Ihiala Local Government Area have stood up and declared with one voice that “enough is enough” over the years of insecurity, vandalization and fear, as they called for the state government’s urgent intervention.
Today, Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Isseke youths held a candlelight procession, starting from Ihiala and walking back into their land, as they moved through places that once gave life to the community; but now lie in ruins.
They passed through broken roads, vandalized facilities, their bushy market, shops, deserted churches and schools that have been closed for years, homes that were abandoned, and the deserted Igwe’s palace which now stands as a shadow of what it used to be.
It was an emotional scene as many could not hold back tears on seeing how badly their town has suffered.
Former Youth President of Isseke and Special Assist to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on House of Assembly Matters, Honourable Thaddeus Enukoha, said their people must return, they can no longer be strangers in their own land; as they have declared that Isseke belongs to them, calling on Governor Soludo and the government to come to their rescue.
The Youth Leader of the community, Mr. Chukwuebuka Ndujekwu, explained that the candlelight walk was not just to mourn what they lost, but a show hope that Isseke will rise again, while affirming that they have suffered too much, their mothers cannot farm freely, their fathers live in fear, and children not in school learning.
Lady Nkechi Agbodike and Victor Ekwegbalu who are indigenes of the town cried out for urgent help in the areas of security, roads construction and schools rehabilitation, and for the dignity of the people to be brought back.
