Anambra Guber: INEC Asks CSOs To Intensify Voter Education

The Director of Gender and Inclusivity Department, Independent National Electoral Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Mrs Dorothy Bello has called on civil society organisations to engage in effective voter education at the  grassroots to achieve a peaceful and inclusive participation of the electorate in November eight Anambra governorship election 

Mrs Bello made the call during implementation meeting and INEC dialogue with civil society organisations, organisation of people with disabilities on peaceful and inclusive participation of electorate ahead of Anambra State governorship election.

She explained that INEC fixed the meeting to brainstorm with members of the organisation on how best to achieve effective engagement of all the electorate in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election and stressed the need for the organisations to sensitise the electorate on the essence of their participation in the election, discourage them from engaging in violence,vote buying and educate them on the process of engaging in election.

In his remarks,the Chairman of Anambra State Coalition of Civil Society Organisation,Mr Chukwumah Okeke represented by Dr. Henry Duru called on INEC to strengthen its partnership with civil society organisations and make it a continuous exercise to achieve an electoral system that can resist factors causing electoral violence, while Anambra State Chairman of Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke represented by the state Woman Leader of the association,Comrade Cheta Nwanokwa commended the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Anambra State, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu for making provisions for all the assistive devices that persons with disabilities need in order to participate actively in the November eight Anambra governorship election.
