It was not just a display of Okija cultural heritage, as clearly seen in the colourful event arena but a home coming for Ndi Okija both home and in the diaspora who came to celebrate and make merry in the once-in-seven years cultural event of the community, known as “Asara Okija festival”.
Speaking at the event which also marked the eight years on the throne of the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Emeka Okezie, the monarch explained that ‘Asara festival’ is about the traditional ruler celebrating with the people, praying for progress and prosperity for all, while showcasing the unique Okija cultural heritage, as the people use the moment to also pay homage to the king.


The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Collins Nwabunwane said that it was unique to witness how the celebration brought the community together, and congratulated the traditional ruler on his achievements.


The member representing Ihiala constituency two, at the State House of Assembly, Honorable Golden Iloh, and an illustrious son of the community, Chief Nwabueze Umeh noted that it is a loved festival by the people and expression of love and solidarity to the traditional ruler.
