A new report by geopolitical research firm SBM Intelligence has revealed the alarming scale of Nigeria’s kidnapping crisis, with four thousand, seven hundred and twenty-two people abducted and two billion, five hundred and seventy million naira paid to kidnappers as ransom between July 2024 and June 2025.
The report, titled Economics of Nigeria’s Kidnap Industry, paints a picture of a booming criminal enterprise fuelled by poverty, weak law enforcement, and the devaluation of the naira.
