In response to recent public complaints against some Agunechemba operatives, the Anambra State Government has reassured citizens that their concerns will not go unheard, emphasizing its commitment to justice, accountability, and reforms that will make community policing safer and more humane.
Addressing the press in Awka, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, and leader of the Agunechemba Security outfit, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, acknowledged that although the outfit was established to support the police in safeguarding local communities, some operatives have, at times, acted outside the law, and appealed to residents to continue speaking up whenever such incidents occur.
Mr. Emeakayi tendered a public apology to anyone who may have suffered abuse or harassment in the hands of Agunechemba personnel, emphasizing that the Soludo administration is firmly rooted in the rule of law and will never shield any operative found guilty of misconduct.
He further called for regular feedback from communities, not just complaints; but also constructive suggestions that can help improve the performance of Agunechemba, as according to him, such partnership will enable the government to reshape the outfit into a people-centered force where discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights take priority.
