Eziagulu-Otu Aguleri Community Celebrates “Alo Nmuo” Festival

The traditional ruler of Eziagulu-Otu Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, Igwe Lawrence Nwofia has performed the Alo Nmuo festival of the community amidst pomp and pageantry.

This is inline with Igbo tradition that demands that each year new yams should be ushered in with celebration of bountiful harvest and thanksgiving to God,

Correspondent Amaka Onwuzulike reports that the celebration was also used to thank their gods for giving them fertile land  despite the challenges of flooding  facing them.  The ceremony was attended by  traditional rulers from various communities in Anambra East Local Government Area.

Performing the kolanut ritual at Ama Okpata, the venue of the event, Igwe Nwofia who is known in the community as “Igwe Ochiagha Eziagulu-Otu” sued for peace with all their neighboring communities, promising that with the mutual understanding and love existing amongst them, there will be no inter communal conflicts again in the area, even as he decried the level of child and early marriages still existing in the community and charged  parents to reverse  the ugly trend.

Earlier, during a special mass celebrated for the new yam festival ,Reverend Father Rufus Echefu explained that the church is not against the culture and traditions of a people but instead is against idol worship and its resurgence among young people.
