In life, there are rare individuals who serve as the finest illustrations of hope, perfection, discipline, humanism, brilliance, and role models. The Anambra governor’s wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, has carved a perfect space in that outstanding worldview.
Born in Adazi-Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Government Area.on Friday, July 31, 1970, Dr Frances Chukwunonyelum Soludo (Née Ezenwanne) kicked off the entrance of a woman who impacted the society with her virtues. Nonye, the first child and first daughter of renowned teachers Chief Emmanuel Chukwuma Ezenwanne and late Mrs Gloria Uzoamaka Ezenwanne grew up taking after these two roles models whose excellent impact on and off the classrooms still come up as reference point in child molding and nurturing.
A daughter of two disciplinarian teachers, Nonye grew up on principles and consciousness of the world around her. Sharing a lineage with the late Professor Dora Akunyili, talks more about the woman that Dr Soludo has become.
In actions, deeds, and words, the Anambra First Lady represents what Mother Teresa of Calcutta described as “doing small things with great love.” She takes up, with deep emotion, the responsibilities of love, of motherhood and benevolence. She is outstanding in natural approach of touching lives without unnecessary publicity and attracting undue attention to herself. She engages in various charity activities without the usual adulating publicity that often trail such interventions in this part of the world.
Most people who have had encounters with the Anambra governor’s wife, have something memorable to take home. Her life reflects the words of Mother Teresa and I quote, “Be kind and merciful. Let no one ever come to you without coming away better and happier.” It didn’t just start with her present position as the state’s first Lady.
Dr Soludo’s humble preference to remain anonymous in her charity activities, often keeps the flashes away but not the lights because of her permeative virtue.
The Anambra Governor’s wife believes that kindness, as a sacred thought of the innermost heart, must operate away from cheers and intentional applause.
Dr Soludo is more about touching lives and motivating people to do the same. Mother Teresa was right when she said , “At the end of life, we are going to be judged on the basis of our love for one another.” She has achieved so much for herself and her family, and is constantly setting the right example for women and girls. One of such ideals is that a woman can become what she dreams of, by staying committed to hard work, humility and dedication.
Dr Soludo does not exhibit the traditional flamboyance that often spotlights a governor’s wife, especially in Nigeria as she finds peace and satisfaction in the simplest ways of life including compassion, empathy and altruism. In living for those who are grappling with life’s challenges, she finds her best inspiration. The Anambra governor’s wife has often attributed her existence to charity. A very practical Christian, Dr Soludo always demonstrates in her daily life the lessons from the Beatitudes of Matthew five, from verse three to twelve: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
Happy fifty-fifth birthday to the wife of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Dr Frances Chukwunonyelum Soludo, Osina Nwata Mara Mma, Mmiliguluegu, Akwaugo Isuofia, Nne di Ogo.
