Ex- DSS Director Chukwurah Tasks Anambra State “Agu-Neche-Mba” On Professionalism

An Awka-born retired Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Chief Ken Chukwurah, has called for closer supervision and monitoring of the activities of the Anambra State “Agu-Neche-Mba” security operatives to maintain sanity and professionalism in the security sector.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that Chief Chukwurah made the call while speaking to the ABS in Awka, stressing the importance of government and police oversight to ensure that the operations of the outfit align with the objectives of the state government in establishing it, which remains to protect Ndi Anambra.

The security expert, who alleged that some members of the security outfit now operate illegal detention cells, contrary to the law which mandates them to arrest and hand over suspects to the police, also alleged that certain operatives misuse the powers given to them by intimidating the very citizens they are meant to protect; hence the need for monitoring to ensure accountability.

Also speaking on the matter, another stakeholder in Awka, Chief Ken Ekwenugo, emphasized that the “Agu-Neche-Mba” operatives must operate strictly within the ambit of the law, reminding them that their primary duty is to safeguard lives and property at the grassroots level, and not to take the law into their own hands.
