Flooding: Mgbakwu Community Sends SOS To Govt

People of Mgbakwu in Awka North Council Area have sent a ‘save our soul’ message to the government at all levels to save them from flooding wreaking havoc in their community.

Correspondent, Amaka Onwuzulike reports that the flood which they said normally comes with high velocity whenever it rains from within Amede, Amakeze, Otulu and Onaga villages in the community, gets to Njikoka-Amankpu village to Eke-Agba Isuanaocha where it has destroyed many houses, displaced about three hundred families and their households, and taken over three-point-two kilometers of land.

Addressing the ABS crew after inspecting the level of devastation caused by the flood, the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odumegwu, who spoke through one of his aides, Mr Emmanuel John-Bosco, expressed dismay over the incident, stating that it was due to lack of drainage and water channels caused by lack of planning, and promised to send the message to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The President General of Mgbakwu Community, Honourable Basil Nwokeoma-Chukwu, disclosed that they have continued to experience the challenge in the past ten years, and have tried all they could to stop the flooding but it keeps escalating and causing more harm, and is threatening to overrun the whole Amankpu village.
