Delegates from the parishes in Awka Diocese will gather for the yearly conference with the theme “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” Some of the highlights of the conference include the arrival service to be officiated by the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka. The President of the Women Ministry, Dr. Martha Ibezim will present her address on Friday twentieth June, 2025.
Other activities are the Mothers of Faith investiture, coming up on the third day
of the conference, the presentation of the first Awka Diocesan Mother’s Union Almanac. On Sunday twenty-second June, 2025 during the thanksgiving service, the conference cake and the profile mother will be presented and subsequently launched. The conference will come to an end after the Benediction by Archbishop Ibezim.
With the dynamic and charismatic leadership of Dr. Martha Ibezim ably assisted by the Vice Presidents, Women Ministry in the Diocese has continued to excel in all ramifications.
The women’s project which include the Mary Sumner Vocational Institute, Awka,
Faith Community Children’s Home Awka and the Queens Convent Awka have continued to maintain outstanding WAEC, NECO and JAMB results. Presently, the women have purposed to boost the convent by building a befitting Chapel for the
students. This project is expected to gulp a huge sum of money and we call on friends of the Diocese, to use their resources to support the project during the
activities in this conference.
Historically, the spread of the Gospel to Adazi-Enu was traceable to the year 1907, through the activities of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) and the efforts of Late Chief Edward Ugbaja Ezenwoye, a great number of the people were converted.
The Chief volunteered his compound as a base for evangelism and the gathering of the newly converted Christians. The steady growth of the converts necessitated the need to acquire a larger land for the erection of a church building. In 1912, Chief Edward Ugbaja provided a parcel of land. The Ezinkwo families of Obe Village, also donated some parcels of land. Another parcel of land was given by Late Mr. Isaiah Ezekwonna Ezugo for expansion.
Subsequently, with zeal and efforts of some members of the church, the associating churches were each made an autonomous parish. The Adazi-Enu Archdeaconry was officially proclaimed on the twenty-fourth February, 2010 by the Most Reverend. M.S.C Anikwenwa of the blessed memory. In 2013 and with the assistance of the Bishop of Awka now Archbishop Ibezim the block facing the field within the church compound was reconstructed and renovated.
It is worthy to note that the foundation stone of the present church building was laid in 1957 by Right Reverend C.J. Patterson, then Bishop of the Niger and dedicated in 1973 by Right Reverend L.M. Uzodike. The Bishop of Awka and now the Archbshiop of the Niger Provence Most Reverend Ibezim laid the foundation stone
of the Archdeacon’s lodge and on Thursday twenty-first December, 2017, he dedicated the Archdeacon’s lodge.
