Anambra State House of Assembly has called on the Director General, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye and the South-East Zonal Director, Dr. Martins Iluyomade to expedite actions on the ongoing inspection and verification at Drug Market, Ogbogwu Onitsha and reopen the market.
The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Aguata Constituency Two, Chief Tony Moubike, during plenary.
He lamented that over twenty-one days closure of the said market has put over ten thousand traders, apprentices, family members and other dependents who rely on the market for their livelihood and sustenance in danger.
Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, noted that for the past few weeks, there have been numerous calls and concerns regarding the market closure, emphasizing that the manner in which the verification exercise is being conducted is causing undue hardship to the constituents.
