Corps Members Anticipate Payment Of ₦77,000 Monthly Allowance

Since the Federal Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC agreed to the ₦70,000 minimum wage, corps members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, have been in anticipation for the commencement of the payment of consequential adjustment on their monthly allowance which is expected to increase from ₦33, 000 to ₦77,000.

The Minimum Wage Act 2024 was passed by the National Assembly following the agreement but implementation has been delayed by the Federal Government and in some states; though the Federal Government had promised to pay the arears beginning July, 2024

Speaking to the ABS, Mr. Obinna Aneke, a graduate of Computer Science from Ade Bayero University, Kano and currently serving in Anambra State, said doubts by corps members over the new allowance is expected but expressed optimism it would be paid soon which would help corps members to better adjust to the economic situation in the country.

Sharing her thoughts, a Biochemistry graduate of Mountain Top University, Ogun State and also serving in Anambra State, Miss Angel Okoreghene, emphasized the need to speed up the implementation of the minimum wage as it would be a relief to corps members as they now struggle to meet their daily needs.

Miss Adesunmisola Agbelusi from Ekiti State and also serving in Anambra State revealed she would only be excited on the increment when she eventually gets credited.
