Mixed Reactions As Nigeria Marks Democracy Day Today

Some citizens of Anambra State have expressed mixed feelings about how the country has faired in the twenty-six years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

X-raying the performance of the country’s democracy, the Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Sir Kenneth Akwuobi, noted that twenty-six years of unbroken democracy is worth celebrating, and  called for strengthening of the three arms of government to enable Nigeria attain unprecedented development, even as he urged President Bola Tinubu to tackle corruption and diversify into agriculture to achieve food security. 

On his part, Engineer Victor Onwuasomba observed that the country’s democracy has recorded some improvements in Anambra State; as the people have witnessed dividends of democracy, though he lamented that there is massive corruption discouraging investment and ultimately impacting negatively on economic growth, infrastructure and the overall usability of life in Nigeria.

Contributing, Mr Chukwudozie Ughammadu said that at twenty-six, Nigerians should jubilate because of uninterrupted democratic change of government, but observed that the country still have more of politicians in the political space instead of leaders, calling for electoral reforms that will produce leaders who will revive the economy, tackle insecurity and the pains of subsidy removal.
