Women traditionalists in Awka community have taken their turn to pay homage to the Imoka deity as part of the one-week line up of activities to mark 2025 Imoka festival.
The ceremony known as “Opu Eke Imoka” is used by the women traditionalists to thank Imoka for the past year and pray for another good year lived in good health and peace.

A female traditionalist, Adaeze Nwaezi from Umueri-Awka told ABS that as a daughter of the soil she was prepared to commune with her ancestors at the Opu-Eke day celebrated on Afor market day in order to receive the blessings from her “Chi”, even as ABS Crew observed at Umuayom village Awka that while the Opu-Eke was ongoing at Olulu Imoka, the menfolk were at Obu Mmadi Adichie wining and dining.

The Chief Priest, Mr. Kenechukwu Nwaezeofordili explained that Imoka is a female deity and further added that every Obu in Awka community must be kept clean, well dressed as they slaughter goats, fowls and drink in celebration of the day.
