Tomorrow, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, together with his wife Chinyere will lead Diocesan officials, delegates and Bishops nominee to Holy Trinity Parish Ufuma, in Orumba North Local Government Area, for the second session of the seventh synod of Aguata Diocese of the Anglican Communion being hosted by Ufuma Anglican Community.
Already the premises of the church where the synod which is the highest decision making body of the Diocese has been well decorated. Ufuma Anglican community is hosting the synod for the third time in history.
It hosted in 1999 in the old Awka Diocese and in 2014 under the present Aguata Diocese and the community is now hosting the second session of the seven synod of the diocese this year.
According to the Clerical Synod Secretary of Aguata Diocese Reverend Uzochukwu Mojekwu, delegates will arrive the synod venue on Thursday for registration and documentation, followed by synod opening service, after which there will be a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Ufuma Igwe Chika Uchime. On Friday, the President of the Synod Bishop Ezeofor will deliver his charge to be followed by its launching. The synod will on Saturday recognize all those that contributed to the spread of the gospel during the Heroes of Faith Award while on Sunday there will be thanksgiving service and launching of the Diocesan Development Fund.
The Bishop of Kebbi Diocese Most Reverend Edmund Akanya is the synod Guest Preacher.
The synod which will last for three days has the theme “Gods Great Tasks for the Church, The Great Commission“.
Aguata Diocese since its inauguration on fourth September 2005 has sustained steady progress in the areas of grassroot evangelism, infrastructural development, education, healthcare delivery and economic empowerment among others and has continued to live up to its motto, “Lampada Christi” meaning “bear the lamb of Christ”.
Grassroot evangelism programmes of the Diocese include Open Heaven, Worship and Word Conference, Fresh Grace From Above, Barach Night of Glory, Porters Wheel, Single and Sensible for the Youth, among others. The diocese through its education board has continued to reposition its schools and colleges for efficient and quality service delivery. They include all Saints Seminary Ekwulobia, Saint Mary the Virgin Convent Ufuma, Saint Catherine Comprehensive Secondary School, Nanka and Aguata Institute of Arts and Craft at Uga.
The diocese is making steady progress towards repositioning Diocesan Hospitals at Igboukwu, Umunze and its annex at Ogbunka. The Diocese has established the Gosifechukwu Microfinance Bank Limited which has since commenced seamless operations and helping petty traders to expand their businesses.
Aguata diocese has established a well-equipped printing and publishing outfit at Oko while plans are under way to establish a diocesan radio station in addition to repositioning its tabloid.
The coming of Christianity to Ufuma can be traced back to 1907 and this has brought remarkable transformation to the area.
Ufuma community has also produced great Ministers of God including the Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese Right Reverend Sam Ike among other prominent individuals.
So as the community is set to host the Synod for the third time, the Archdeacon of Ufuma Archdeaconry Venerable David Okpalaononuju , his wife Njideka, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee ,Sir Agochukwu Okpalaoka, and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee Venerable Francis Orah assure all delegates and other invitees of remarkable event and wish participants happy synod deliberations.
