Speaking on the day, the Director of Anambra State Fire Service, Engineer Chukwudi Chiketa explained that the day, apart from remembering brave firefighters both in service and retired, is also used to create awareness on fire and for members of the public to encourage firefighters to do their job better, appreciating the state government for its support to the fire service.
Engineer Chiketa frowned at the unwarranted attacks faced by firefighters in Nigeria while doing their job, urging people to always call the fire service on time whenever there is fire outbreak to avoid much damage, and revealed that the state government is making efforts to establish fire station at all local governments in the state.
On their parts, firefighters with the State Fire Service including, Mr Believe-God Ononye and Mrs Chinenye Onyenuforo explained that the job of a firefighter is not an easy one and imbued with sacrifices, pointing out that not calling firefighters early enough and mobbing them afterwards is ignorance on the part of some members of the public, which must stop.
