Commentary: Soludo’s Road Dualization Projects And Transformation Agenda

Good governance demands keeping pace with modern and global standard towards improving  the  welfare of the masses  and the downtrodden in the society. It also requires  effective, efficient, transparent and accountable management of available  resources to provide   necessities that make life worth living for the people.
The Nigerian Constitution assigns various responsibilities to  the federal, state, and local government councils The essence of the division of roles is to provide effective and efficient governance to justify the essence of government geared towards meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the masses.
Deplorable condition of infrastructure especially roads interconnecting states of the Federation termed “Trunk A Roads” has adversely affected socio-economic and industrial activities throughout the country. Most of these roads   have become death traps and over the years, the federal government has not done much to change the narrative.
Reconstruction of strategic roads will enhance socioeconomic activities and accelerate industrial development  which will in turn attract both local and foreign investors as well as strengthen   manufacturing capacity that will boost  the country’s Gross Domestic Product .
Governor Soludo has taken the bull by the horns and boldly embarked on the redesigning and reconstruction  of the “Trunk A Roads” in the state.  This will enhance movement not only in the state but also to other parts of the country and  would open up    rural communities to further accelerate   rural development that will facilitate  exploring  and harnessing  vast natural resources and non-oil sectors to boost the state and national economies.
The redesigning of Trunk A Roads in Anambra State to dual carriageway including the Amawbia-Ekwulobia-Uga-Akokwa road  and  Nwagu-Agulu- Nnewi, Ozubulu – Okija road to join the Onitsha-Owerri Trunk A Road, could be described as an engineering masterpiece of  global standard and will in a near future birth his vision  of liveable, clean and prosperous state.
These interventions have further underscored the  need to review the Nigeria constitution to empower sub national governments with necessary capacity to  reposition certain government structures and institutions to frontally address the concerns, yearnings and aspirations of the masses.
For example, the Anambra  Homeland security Law, Operation Udo Ga Achi and  “Agunechemba”  security outfit have  within a short time shown that effective and efficient security network is possible in Nigeria as  they have  driven fear into the criminal  elements  and expelled many of them from the state boundaries.
This has proved  that the principles of federal system  which recommends multi level security architecture can yield the desired results.
Governor Soludo’s strategic policies of redesigning and reconstructing Federal roads  into dual carriageways is a further demonstration of   his reform agenda.
