FG Receives More Knocks For State Of Emergency In Rivers State

A legal practitioner, Barrister Mike Ikegbunam has condemned the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Mr Sim Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu, as well as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by President Bola Tinubu.

Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that Barrister Ikegbunam explained that section three hundred of the 1999 Constitution as amended empowers the President to declare a state of emergency in any part of Nigeria, but after the declaration, the National Assembly must rectify it within two days if they are in session, and when they are not, it will take them ten days to do so.

Barrister Ikegbunam lamented that it is a hasty decision on the part of President Tinubu to replace Governor Fubara with a Sole Administration, Vice Admiral, Ibok Efe-Ibas immediately after he declared a state of emergency in the state, saying that the Governor can explore the option of challenging his removal from office in Court.
