IWD: Anambra State Government Celebrates Day In Awka, Urges Women To Be Agents Of Change

Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare has celebrated the 2025 International Women’s Day in Awka.

The event which was in collaboration with Supporters of Good Governance (SoGG) had in attendance women from across the 21 local government areas of the state, religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, ASATU men, women and youths and dignitaries from all walks of life.

The celebration started with a prayer session where the attendees prayed for God’s guidance on the Soludo led administration and concluded with a unanimous decree that all forms of fake practice of Eze nwanyi and native doctors are prohibited in the state.

In her opening remark, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Honourable, Ify Obinabo who appreciated the women for coming, charged them to be good ambassadors of positive action especially as it concerns the upbringing of their children.

Others who spoke during the event included; the chairman on the occasion, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo,CEO, Seahorse Lubricant, movie star actors led by Mrs Ngozi Ezeonu, Prof Ngozi Ikechebelu among other notable dignitaries.

Some beneficiaries of the Sexual and Gender Based Violence unit of the ministry also testified and thanked the Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his prompt response towards ending their plight through the ministry and pledged their support in the coming election.

The event featured march past by members of the Supporters of Good Governance in all the 21 local government area, drama, cultural dance and ode presentation.
