2025 “Igu Aro” Abatete: Community Showcases Cultural Heritage

Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, over the weekend, joined his Traditional Ruler, Igwe Emeka Efobi in performing the ceremonial cutting of new yam and eating same to mark the 2025 “Igu Aro” Abatete, a revered annual event commonly known as “iwa ji” festival in Igbo land.

Represented by the Traditional Prime Minister of the community, Chief Pius Ezeigwe, Igwe Efobi thanked God for peace in Abatete, and progress of the community members, commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his good work in the state, and expressed optimism that he would do more so the community would benefit from road infrastructure. 

Anambra State Information Commissioner, Mefor, stated that the event, being celebrated in August every year, aligns with Soludos’ programmes aimed at promoting agriculture, as well as guaranteeing food security and healthy living, while the SSA to Governor Soludo on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Chief Ifeanyi Metu, said that the community will continue to key into the state government’s programmes. 

President General of Abatete Development Organization, Chief Ezedinobi Ezigbo-Nwadike, represented by Sir Anthony Adibe, led ADO NEC in attending the ceremony.
