Commentary: All Saints Grammar School Umunze At 60

Members of the old boys Association, friends and critical  stakeholders in the education sector will on Tuesday this week converge on All Saints Grammar School Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area for the grand finale of series of the activities lined up to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the school established by the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion..

According to the chairman of the planning committee Sir Conrad Ifejiuka, one of the  highlights of the ceremony will be the lunching of five hundred million naira endowment fund.

The ceremony which will be under the chairmanship of Mr. Jonathan Ibekwe,  Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Rest Assured Hotel Umunze will commence by ten o’clock in the morning at Memo Event Centre Umunze.

 The member representing Orumba North and South at the Federal House of Representatives Abuja, Princess Chinwe Nnabuife will be the Special Guest of honour and Chief Arinze Onwuzulike  will be the Chief Guest of Honour while a onetime Deputy Governor of Anambra State Mr. Emeka Sibudu is the Distinguished Guest of Honour and the Commissioner of Education in Anambra State Professor Ngozi Chuma-Ude is the Chief host.

The traditional Ruler of Umunze Igwe Promise Eze  is the Royal Father of the Day.

All Saints Grammar School Umunze started in the early 1964 with Mr. C.M. Nweze as the principal who later handed over to Sir, J.N.C. Ezeife  who was succeeded by many other principals over the years. In 2008, the school benefited from the magnanimity of the  State Governor  who included the school in the two million naira rehabilitation of science laboratory and in 2009 the school was

 accredited  for NECO certificate examination exercise.

In 2011, Sir F.O.C Ibe was the first Old Boy to be appointed the principal of the school.

During his tenure Governor Peter Obi gave all school in Anambra State ten million naira, for rehabilitation of schools, buses, laptops and heavy duty generators.

In 2016,  Mrs. G.N. Maduka was appointed the first female Principal of the school  Her administration was short-lived as she was soon appointed a  Zonal Director of Education at Ogidi Educational zone.

The school has made a remarkable progress in academics and in extra curricula activities. It took first position in Healthy Living Club Competition championed by Mrs. Nonye Soludo.

Mrs. Nkechi Regina Iloduba is the Principal of the school till date. Under her watch, a student of the school, Master Ekenedilichukwu Onwumere who is currently the Senior Prefect of the school participated in Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Science quiz competition and came third at the state finals.  Similarly, the school was represented  by Master Ekenedilichukwu  Onwumere and Miss Oluebube Ilo at a quiz competition by Umunze Youth Association and they did well.

Also, thirty students of the school benefitted from Aridon Foundation ,an initiative of Chief Arinze Onwuzurike.

As the school is set for its sixtieth year anniversary, it expected that members of the old boys of the school and their friends will continue to support the present leadership under its President Roseberry  Uka and Secretary Mr. Ajuluchukwu Okechi.
