ANSAA Organises Second Edition Of White Cane Campaign In Onitsha

A resource person at the second edition of “White Cane Campaign” organized by Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency and others, Barrister Somadina Chukwueloka, has called on the Anambra State Government to properly constitute and adequately fund the state disability rights commission, saying that the measures would help in addressing about eighty percent of their challenges.

Barrister Chukwueloka, also visually impaired, said it is the duty of the government to ensure that white canes are made available to those that need them at all times, adding that their provision is contained in the Disability Right Laws of the State.

On the role of the judiciary in ensuring their welfare, Barrister Chukwueloka tasked the arm of the government to ensure that matters involving white cane users as regards violation of white cane usage are well entertained in courts, as well as given accelerated hearing.
A clergyman, Reverend Abel Okoye, on behalf of members of various support groups, reminded the visually impaired persons that God can allow anyone to be challenged in one way or the other.

At the event held at All Saints Cathedral Onitsha, one hundred visually impaired persons received white canes with chips.
